Welcoming Valerie Troutt. Born and raised in Oakland, Valerie Troutt is a jazz, gospel vocalist, composer, and educator deeply embedded in the East Bay creative community. As Music Director for the Embodiment Project, she co-founded MoonCandy, a live-house ensemble, and integrates her passion for social justice through collaborations with the Museum of African Diaspora, Queer Cultural Center, and Yerba Buena Gardens Festival. Oakland’s “Oakland Girl” channels ancestral energy with every performance.
