This fall, Carnegie Hall in New York City will host a unique moment of the Portuguese cultural life with the world premiere of “Amália in America – Beyond Fado”, taking place on October 11, 2025, at the iconic Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage.

The concert is a tribute to the life and legacy of Amália Rodrigues, the unforgettable voice of fado and one of Portugal’s greatest cultural icons, who enchanted audiences worldwide — including in her own historic performances at this very venue in 1952 and 1975.

For this special occasion, three of Portugal’s most celebrated contemporary artists — Cristina Branco, Raquel Tavares, and Ricardo Ribeiro — will perform alongside the Portuguese Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Jan Wierzba, marking the orchestra’s first-ever appearance in the United States. More than 100 artists will take the stage to celebrate Amália’s artistry, emotion, and extraordinary musical range.

The program will include new orchestral arrangements of key songs from Amália’s international career, blending traditional fado with Broadway songs she once recorded in the U.S., showcasing her remarkable versatility and cross-genre brilliance. The arrangements are written by five of Portugal’s leading composers and orchestrators: Carlos Azevedo, Daniel Bernardes, Filipe Raposo, Pedro Duarte, and Pedro Moreira.

Produced by Égide – Associação Portuguesa das Artes and co-organized with the Luso-American Development Foundation (FLAD), the concert also marks FLAD’s the 40th anniversary. It is presented in partnership with OPART / São Carlos Opera House, under the High Patronage of the President of the Portuguese Republic, and with the support of the Portuguese Ministry of Culture, Turismo de Portugal, TAP Air Portugal, and the Amália Rodrigues Foundation.
