Paying homage to Mr. Higgins is renowned drummer Marvin “Smitty” Smith. A prolific musician whose sensitive yet commanding style has made him a first-call session drummer, Smitty has recorded on over 200 albums, including two solo projects. He has performed with legends such as Sonny Rollins, Archie Shepp, Kevin Eubanks, as well as artists across genres like Sting, Ron Carter, Willie Nelson, Hank Jones, and the Jazztet. Smith also served as the drummer for The Tonight Show with Jay Leno band. Constantly in demand, he can be heard on countless recordings spanning bop, mainstream, and beyond.
