Celebrate the power of music and language at Hip Hop Saved My Life: An Evening with Hip Hop for Change, writer and performer of How Shakespeare Saved My Life Jacob Ming-Trent and Hip Hop Historian Davey D hosted by Berkeley Rep. An evening celebrating the power of hip hop as survival, resistance, and art.

Preshow celebration at 6:45pm
The night begins with live performances from Hip Hop for Change, showcasing the next generation of Bay Area storytellers and culture bearers. Enjoy complimentary wine from Black-owned Theopolis Vineyards and treats from Cupcakin’ Bake Shop.

Postshow conversation at 9:30pm
Following the 8pm performance, join playwright and performer Jacob Ming-Trent in conversation with Bay Area radio icon and hip hop historian Davey D as they reflect on the life-changing impact of hip hop, its role as a tool for liberation and learning, and why its influence continues to reverberate across art, education, and community.
