Local composer and bassoonist Katherine Young celebrates the release of her album BIOMES (Chaikin Records). The album features three pieces: BIOMES 6.0, BIOMES 8.1 and BIOMES 7.4. BIOMES 6.0 is a notated concert work created with and for NYC-based percussion+piano quartet Yarn/Wire. BIOMES 8.1 is a studio-based work created with Chicago experimental electronicist Olivia Block, and BIOMES 7.4 features cornetist Ben LaMar Gary and drummer Brian Chase (of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs). The music is environmental, ambient, and immersive with unexpected moments of groove and melodicism woven together with field recordings and instrumental writing.
