Created over a string of bi-weekly shows in Toronto at the music venue known as Tapestry, Lavender Town was formed as an attempt to consolidate instrumental jazz fusion with a dark modern sound hailing from rock, underground hiphop, and EDM.

The group is composed of Lazar Miric (saxophone), Kae Murphy (trumpet), Luan Phung (guitar), Jen Lo (keyboard), Ambrose Veno (drums), PT Sandberg (bass). Their performances highlight each of their individual improvisational styles while blending influences from contemporary artists such as KNOWER, Hakushi Hasegawa, Outside World, as well as classic jazz fusion legends like Herbie Hancock, Freddie Hubbard, and Allan Holdsworth.

In the early 1900s, jazz musicians used themes from popular media (movie/musical scores, pop music) as a base framework for improvisation and stylistic interpretation . These themes are known as “standards” and are still performed to this day. Not covers in a typical sense, the harmony and delivery of a standard could vary wildly from the source material, sometimes only abstractly referencing the original form. It is in this spirit that Lavender Town covers themes from current day media, the “standards” of their time, everything from Zelda to MF DOOM.
