LIBERACIÓN COLLECTIVE: THE CONGO & LEBANON
The first of a 3-part series with the focus to educate and draw the parallels amongst different global issues to find connection amongst marginalized communities across Los Angeles.

Funds raised will be directed to Friends of Congo  and used to house displaced women and children, secure food and water. We are also raising funds for Egna Legna in Lebanon which works with African women trapped in the Kafala system of which the proceeds will be used for food, women’s hygiene products, diapers, rent and medical assistance.

We will be screening Sundance winning and Oscar nominated documentary, A Soundtrack to a Coup d’Etat, followed by performances, speeches, poetry readings, workshops and an all-day market including over 30 vendors.

The keynote speakers include acclaimed American musician, actor, entrepreneur, and philanthropist Vic Mensa, and recipient of the 2018 Feminist Humanist Award and the 2020 Harvard Humanist of the Year Award Ijeoma Oluo. 

Performances by The Mafé Ensemble, Boleros With Attitude, JJ’88, Gabriel Teodros. 

Poetry readings by Shelley Bruce, Diandra Marizet and Skye Cabrera as well as music by Anthony Valadez and Deemie.

We will host 3 workshops including: A Way to Live Without the System led by creative director, organizer, and producer richie reseda, a Lebanese Dabke dance class by Maha and a Soundbath by Sahar.
