Sounds of Freedom exists to celebrate Juneteenth through the unifying power of music, culture, and community. Rooted at Eugene’s, the event is designed to honor the enduring legacy of freedom by creating a space where artists, neighbors, organizers, and creatives can gather in expression, connection, and purpose.

More than a single celebration, Sounds of Freedom is a growing cultural platform dedicated to amplifying voices, investing in creative opportunity, and building lasting community impact through the arts. Through live performance, storytelling, collaboration, and collective support, the event seeks to transform celebration into momentum — supporting organizations and initiatives that use music as a tool for empowerment, healing, education, and access. The event is a creation of our very own Daniel Mast, Give a Beat teaching artist and program graduate.

The Black & Tan stage features live bands and an open community mic where singers, musicians, and spoken word artists can take the floor. On the restaurant stage, teaching artists host hands-on DJ and production workshops open to all ages, alongside spoken word and a guest mixologist experience. The back patio hosts the Mid-City Chess Champions Tournament, a high-energy community showdown with prizes.

A Juneteenth buffet runs from 6–8PM with DJ geriFree on the decks, happy hour to open and close the night and free refreshments in the main hall all evening long.

And on the patio, Give a Beat is hosting the “Crate Digging for Freedom” activation which lets you pull a vinyl record to keep for just $3 — automatically entering you into the evening’s community raffle.
