The four outstanding young musicians of Le Consort have established themselves as stars of the early-music world. The Paris-based ensemble is led by baroque violinist Théotime Langlois de Swarte, who also plays with the esteemed Les Arts Florissants, and whose dazzling talent has made him one of today’s most heralded violin soloists. Co-founder of the ensemble is another young star of his instrument, the extraordinarily gifted French-American harpsichordist Justin Taylor. Le Consort specializes in the various styles of the trio sonata and brings a blend of music by Baroque masters Bach, Telemann, Geminiani, and Albinoni, and exciting rarities to their highly anticipated NYC debut. Performed with staggering technique, authenticity, and charisma, these four musicians under 35 are making music of the 17th century thrillingly new.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

Le Consort, formed in Paris in 2015, is dedicated to Baroque music, particularly the trio sonata, striving to bring a personal, dynamic, and colorful interpretation to the genre. The repertoire includes works by Corelli, Vivaldi, Couperin, and Purcell, as well as lesser-known composers.

Bringing unknown composers back into the spotlight is one of the ensemble’s artistic hallmarks. Jean-François Dandrieu, Louis-Antoine Lefebvre, Giovanni Battista Reali, and Mrs. Philarmonica (the pseudonym of an early 18th-century female composer) are composers that Le Consort has recorded for the first time on the albums Opus 1, Venez chere ombre, Specchio Veneziano, and Philarmonica.

In 2017, Le Consort won First Prize and the Audience Prize at the Val de Loire International Early Music Competition. Since then, it has been ensemble-in-residence at Royaumont Abbey, the Banque de France and Les Festivals de Wallonie, and Baroque ensemble-in-residence at Opera Orchestre national Montpellier Occitanie. Le Consort performs in France and internationally, at La Seine Musicale, the Evian Festival, La Folle Journee in Nantes, Les Sommets Musicaux de Gstaad, Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw, Rheingau Musik Festival, and Auditorio Nacional in Madrid. Additional performances include the Ambronay Festival, Roma Festival Barocco, Actus Humanus Festival in Gdansk, Philharmonie de Paris, Hamburg’s Elbphilharmonie, the Radio France auditorium, and Royal Albert Hall for the BBC Proms.

In recent years, Le Consort has expanded into accompanying vocal projects and concertos. Examples include Vivaldi’s Concerti per una vita and Le quattro stagioni with soloist Théotime Langlois de Swaarte, Concerti per violoncello with Hanna Salzenstein, and the albums Teatro Sant’Angelo with Adèle Charvet, dedicated to Vivaldi, as well as Begin the Song, exploring English repertoire with countertenor Paul-Antoine Bénos Djian.

Le Consort is in residence at the Opéra Orchestre national Montpellier Occitanie/ Pyrénées Méditerranée.
