What is Abusia Backtrack?

Abusia Backtrack is an original editorial series produced by Abusia Radio—designed to preserve, elevate, and celebrate the foundations of house, disco, gospel-infused dance music, and all the spaces that nurtured them.

Each chapter tells the story of the venues, DJs, producers, dancers, radio stations, and cultural movements that shaped the house music experience. From Club Zanzibar to Paradise Garage, The Loft to college radio—Backtrack is where the roots live.

On Sunday, June 22, 2025, we bring Backtrack to life—with two DJs whose own journeys reflect this music’s depth and diversity.

DJ Merlin Bobb — a true deep house craftsman, with Paradise Garage lineage and a decades-long role in shaping the soulful dance sound of New York.
DJPAULHOWARD — a Queens-born, DC-based Mixshow pioneer and the voice behind House After Dark on WPFW 89.3 FM, weaving hip hop, house, and dancefloor culture into every set.

Together, they will soundtrack this tribute with reverence and fire—honoring the music’s past, present, and future.
